Manual Therapy

Whilst we love movement at Live Bright Physiotherapy, the use of manual therapy techniques such as soft tissue massage, trigger point release and joint mobilisation can provide good temporary relief that will allow our exercise programs to be more effective. It is one of the tools in our tool box that we can use to provide you with temporary relief in conjunction with other techniques to provide overall recovery.

What is Manual Therapy?

Manual Therapy is a specialised technique that our Physiotherapist is trained in that involves hands-on techniques to mobilise joints and soft tissue. This approach aims to reduce pain, increase range of motion, and improve overall function. Our therapists are trained in a variety of manual therapy techniques, ensuring comprehensive care for a wide range of conditions. Manual Therapy is one tool that we use, that can provide temporary relief allowing for more effective exercise prescription.

Types of Manual Therapy

  1. Joint Mobilisation: gentle, localised movements of specific joints to reduce stiffness, pain and muscle spasm.

  2. Soft tissue mobilisation: techniques including massage and trigger point release to relieve muscle tension, improve circulation and reduce pain.

  3. Mobilisation with Movement: this technique is a joint mobilisation which gets you involved, mobilising your joint through range of motion to improvement movement, reduce pain and increase mobility. This technique can be used with the assistance of our Physiotherapist or with a band which can then be used as an exercise at home if effective in clinic.

Benefits of Manual Therapy

  • Pain relief: when chosen correctly, these techniques can improve pain

  • Improved mobility: enhanced joint and muscle function for better movement

  • Faster recovery: as part of a well designed rehabilitation plan, manual therapy can help provide pain relief so we can work on getting you stronger faster

  • Non-invasive treatment: a hands on approach that is non-invasive and can be tailored to your pain levels

Each session is designed to be comfortable and effective, with our Physiotherapist using their expertise to ensure optimal results. THE LIVE BRIGHT JOURNEY

Every journey will be unique and everything is 100% individualised to meet your needs. However, this is a general idea of what you can expect at Live Bright Physiotherapy.

STEP 1: ASSESSMENT

Your first appointment will involve a thorough initial assessment conducted by a physiotherapist. This will involve a subjective interview where we will ask you everything we need to know to help you. Then you will be taken through a physical assessment and movement analysis relating to your presenting complaint

STEP 2: INTERVENTION

In your session, you may receive some hands on treatment such as massage, dry needling/acupuncture, manual therapy etc. to assist with pain relief. However, at Live Bright Physiotherapy, we believe movement is medicine and our go to treatment is an individualised rehabilitation/exercise plan to target any weakness, tightness and movement dysfunction. Don’t worry, we won’t give you a million random exercises that you won’t want to do.

STEP 3: EDUCATION

Understanding what is going on and why is fundamental in helping you recover. If you know why we are prescribing certain exercises it will make it that much easier to stick to them. No question is a silly one.

STEP 4: MOVE

This bit is up to you. After your session, you will be given an individualised exercise program and now it’s time for you to execute and reap the rewards.

STEP 5: FOLLOW UP

Whilst we love our clients, our goal is to get you to the point that they don’t need us anymore. Depending on your circumstance will depend on how often and how many times we need to see you, but if we recommend another session, it’s for your benefit, not ours, we promise!
