What is Reformer Pilates?

Reformer Pilates is a specialised form of exercise which utilises an apparatus called a ‘Refomer’. This piece of equipment (pictured) consists of a sliding carriage, springs, straps and pulleys, allowing for a wide range of resistance-based exercises. It’s designed to support and challenge individuals of all fitness levels from beginners to advanced.

Benefits of Reformer Pilates

  1. Enhanced mobility: Through controlled, flowing movements, Reformer Pilates improves flexibility and joint mobility. This can alleviate stiffness, reduce the risk of injury, and enhance overall movement quality.

  2. Improved Core Strength: Reformer Pilates targets the deep stabilizing muscles of the trunk, helping to build strength from the inside out. A strong core is essential for good quality movement, improved posture balance and injury prevention

  3. Muscle Tone and Definition: By working against spring resistance, Reformer Pilates helps to sculpt and tone muscles throughout the body, resulting in long, lean muscle definition.

  4. Postural Correction: Whilst there’s no such thing as a poor posture, many individuals experience postural strength imbalances due to sedentary lifestyles or previous injuries. Reformer Pilates promotes proper alignment and postural awareness, helping to correct imbalances and alleviate discomfort.

  5. Injury Rehabilitation: Our Physiotherapist is trained to tailor Reformer Pilates sessions to meet the unique needs of individuals recovering from injury or managing chronic conditions. This gentle yet effective form of exercise can aid in rehabilitation by improving strength, flexibility, and functional movement patterns.

THE LIVE BRIGHT JOURNEY

Every journey will be unique and everything is 100% individualised to meet your needs. However, this is a general idea of what you can expect at Live Bright Physiotherapy.

STEP 1: ASSESSMENT

Your first appointment will involve a thorough initial assessment conducted by a physiotherapist. This will involve a subjective interview where we will ask you everything we need to know to help you. Then you will be taken through a physical assessment and movement analysis relating to your presenting complaint

STEP 2: INTERVENTION

In your session, you may receive some hands on treatment such as massage, dry needling/acupuncture, manual therapy etc. to assist with pain relief. However, at Live Bright Physiotherapy, we believe movement is medicine and our go to treatment is an individualised rehabilitation/exercise plan to target any weakness, tightness and movement dysfunction. Don’t worry, we won’t give you a million random exercises that you won’t want to do.

STEP 3: EDUCATION

Understanding what is going on and why is fundamental in helping you recover. If you know why we are prescribing certain exercises it will make it that much easier to stick to them. No question is a silly one.

STEP 4: MOVE

This bit is up to you. After your session, you will be given an individualised exercise program and now it’s time for you to execute and reap the rewards.

STEP 5: FOLLOW UP

Whilst we love our clients, our goal is to get you to the point that they don’t need us anymore. Depending on your circumstance will depend on how often and how many times we need to see you, but if we recommend another session, it’s for your benefit, not ours, we promise!
