Pre + Post Op Rehabilitation
Sometimes surgery is the best course of treatment that may suit your circumstances. Post operative journeys can be daunting and our Physiotherapists are here to help you every step of the way. Providing reassurance, exercise programming and guidance to get you back to doing the things you love.
In circumstances where surgery is elective, you may have a period prior to surgery that we can capitilise on with a pre-op rehabiltation plan. This includes a period prior to your surgery date that we can prepare your muscles, which has been shown to improve outcomes post op. This includes improving range of motion, strength, pain, swelling and gait. It will also familiarise you with exercises that you will use after your surgery which can help make post-op rehabilitation less daunting.

What is Pre and Post-op Rehabilitation?
Pre and Post-Op Rehabilitation involves tailored exercise and therapy programs designed to prepare your body for surgery and facilitate a smooth and efficient recovery. Our approach focuses on enhancing your strength, flexibility, and overall health before surgery (pre-op) and aiding your recovery, reducing pain, and restoring function after surgery (post-op).
Key Components of our Pre- and Post-op Rehabilitation
Comprehensive Assessment:
Detailed evaluation of your physical condition, surgical needs, and recovery goals.
Identification of any pre-existing conditions or risk factors that may affect your surgery and recovery.
Pre-Operative Rehabilitation:
Customized exercise programs to improve strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular health.
Education on what to expect during and after surgery, including pain management techniques.
Strategies to reduce anxiety and enhance overall readiness for surgery.
3. Post-Operative Rehabilitation:
Gradual progression of therapeutic exercises to restore strength, mobility, and function.
Manual therapy techniques to reduce pain, swelling, and scar tissue formation.
Functional training to help you return to daily activities and specific goals such as work or sports.
4. Pain Management:
Education on at-home pain management strategies.
5. Continuous Monitoring and Adjustment:
Regular follow-ups to track your progress and adjust your rehabilitation plan as needed.
Ongoing support and motivation to help you stay on track with your recovery.

THE LIVE BRIGHT JOURNEY
Every journey will be unique and everything is 100% individualised to meet your needs. However, this is a general idea of what you can expect at Live Bright Physiotherapy.
STEP 1: ASSESSMENT
Your first appointment will involve a thorough initial assessment conducted by a physiotherapist. This will involve a subjective interview where we will ask you everything we need to know to help you. Then you will be taken through a physical assessment and movement analysis relating to your presenting complaint
STEP 2: INTERVENTION
In your session, you may receive some hands on treatment such as massage, dry needling/acupuncture, manual therapy etc. to assist with pain relief. However, at Live Bright Physiotherapy, we believe movement is medicine and our go to treatment is an individualised rehabilitation/exercise plan to target any weakness, tightness and movement dysfunction. Don’t worry, we won’t give you a million random exercises that you won’t want to do.
STEP 3: EDUCATION
Understanding what is going on and why is fundamental in helping you recover. If you know why we are prescribing certain exercises it will make it that much easier to stick to them. No question is a silly one.
STEP 4: MOVE
This bit is up to you. After your session, you will be given an individualised exercise program and now it’s time for you to execute and reap the rewards.
STEP 5: FOLLOW UP
Whilst we love our clients, our goal is to get you to the point that they don’t need us anymore. Depending on your circumstance will depend on how often and how many times we need to see you, but if we recommend another session, it’s for your benefit, not ours, we promise!
