Acupuncture and Dry Needling
Dry needling and acupuncture can provide pain relief, reduce inflammation and promote healing. Our Physiotherapist is qualified in Western Acupuncture and Dry Needling techniques which can be a great adjunct to your treatment plan. Whilst there are many treatment options available to you, acupuncture and dry needling can provide temporary relief to pain, improve function and provide relaxation.
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a practice rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It involves the insertion of ultra-thin needles into specific points on the body to balance the flow of energy (Qi) and promote natural healing. Acupuncture is widely used to treat a variety of conditions and at Live Bright Physiotherapy, we use it in conjunction with Dry Needling to promote healing, reduce pain and relax muscles.
Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points on the body, known as acupoints, which are believed to correspond to different organs and systems. This stimulation helps to restore the balance of Qi, enhancing the body's ability to heal itself. Modern research also suggests that acupuncture can influence the nervous system, reduce inflammation, and release endorphins, providing both physical and emotional relief.
What is Dry Needling?
Dry Needling is a therapeutic technique that involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific trigger points in the muscles. This method aims to release muscle tension, reduce pain, and improve range of motion. It is particularly effective for treating conditions such as:
Chronic pain
Muscle tightness
Sports injuries
Tendinopathy
Headaches and migraines
By targeting myofascial trigger points, Dry Needling stimulates the body's natural healing process. The insertion of needles prompts a localized twitch response, which helps to break the cycle of pain and muscle spasm. This process enhances blood flow, reduces inflammation, and promotes tissue repair.
What to expect:
During a Dry Needling/Acupuncture session, our experienced Physiotherapist will conduct a thorough assessment to understand your health concerns and goals. We will then discuss all treatment options and what we recommend would be best for you, which may or may not include dry needling and acupuncture. If deemed appropriate, needles are then gently inserted into the trigger/acupoints, and you may feel a brief twitch response or slight discomfort. The needles will be left in place for ~10minutes to reap the full benefits of both dry needling and acupuncture. The experience is generally relaxing, and many patients find it to be a soothing and restorative process.

THE LIVE BRIGHT JOURNEY
Every journey will be unique and everything is 100% individualised to meet your needs. However, this is a general idea of what you can expect at Live Bright Physiotherapy.
STEP 1: ASSESSMENT
Your first appointment will involve a thorough initial assessment conducted by a physiotherapist. This will involve a subjective interview where we will ask you everything we need to know to help you. Then you will be taken through a physical assessment and movement analysis relating to your presenting complaint
STEP 2: INTERVENTION
In your session, you may receive some hands on treatment such as massage, dry needling/acupuncture, manual therapy etc. to assist with pain relief. However, at Live Bright Physiotherapy, we believe movement is medicine and our go to treatment is an individualised rehabilitation/exercise plan to target any weakness, tightness and movement dysfunction. Don’t worry, we won’t give you a million random exercises that you won’t want to do.
STEP 3: EDUCATION
Understanding what is going on and why is fundamental in helping you recover. If you know why we are prescribing certain exercises it will make it that much easier to stick to them. No question is a silly one.
STEP 4: MOVE
This bit is up to you. After your session, you will be given an individualised exercise program and now it’s time for you to execute and reap the rewards.
STEP 5: FOLLOW UP
Whilst we love our clients, our goal is to get you to the point that they don’t need us anymore. Depending on your circumstance will depend on how often and how many times we need to see you, but if we recommend another session, it’s for your benefit, not ours, we promise!
